Delores Dorland
Watercolor Painting and Fiber Art
Missouri Valley, IA
Artist's Statement: Art is all around us. It is the heart and soul of our lives be it through visual, audible, or textural. It is music, movement, and feeling. It is in the very nature that surround us. It is never static, always changing, always inspiring. I will be working on a painting and then suddenly decide that it also needs to be done in fabric. Then, I take my time in figuring out how to do that so that I can do the subject justice. I give thanks to the master creator, God. Without Him, none of this would be possible.
Artist's Bio: Delores has lived in Iowa all of her life. Having been raised on the farm brought her in close association with nature which is the main focus of her art, even as a child. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary and secondary art education with a minor in science. She later added endorsements in elementary education and Title I Reading. She has worked with preschoolers through adults. She taught Adult Basic Education and GED classes for over 25 years before retiring. She is married with 5 children, soon to be 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
She enjoys quilting and watercolor painting and decided to combine the two media into one, Fabric Art. Recently, she has been using watercolor pencil both on paper and cloth. She belongs to the Omaha Plein Air Painters. She also enjoys playing the double bass for the Council Bluffs Symphony, and Blair Area Community Band and Jazz Band. She also plays the piano. Other activities include gardening and quilting using her own designs. Quilting is as much an art media as any of the other forms. Since retiring, Delores has taught classes in Watercolor pencils on cloth, making T-shirt quilts, the art of Tela Madera, and other art classes.
She has had several art shows both solo and in conjunction with other artists. She has won several awards in both local and state fairs and shows.
