Chanelle Teut
Shades of Chay
Sioux City, IA
Artist's Statement: My artwork, like everything else in my life, isn't limited to just a few fields of interest. I love experimenting and trying different techniques, working with new mediums, and finding ways of combining them. Inspiration comes from everywhere, at any time. From a pattern I see, to something I've read or written. Whether it's a logo I'm asked to design or a special interest gift for someone. I never have everything planned out from the beginning, just a concept. The piece reveals itself along the way. I enjoy researching subjects, like mythologies and flower meanings, to add depth and meaning to each piece. As for why I do it? The motivation varies as much as everything else. But I'd say the biggest one is because art is the only activity that I can purely lose myself to for hours at a time without realizing it.
Artist's Bio: I grew up in Ute but currently live in Sioux City. I have a number of hobbies that I cycle through based on mood or current interest, and am constantly adding to that list. The list includes artistry, writing poetry and prose, gardening and canning, reading, and playing my flute among others. I work as a caregiver for adults with traumatic brain injuries and as an EMT. I live with my best friend and our spoiled cat and dog, the biggest supporters of my crazy schedule! Art has always been a part of who I am. It is integrated into just about everything I do. It is something that I am continuously developing and refining. And I always have a stack of unfinished pieces waiting for me to come back to them!
