Artist Statement: When I took my first watercolor class and saw the colors swirling across the page I was hooked. I love the beautiful “happy accidents” that just magically appear and the challenges of a medium that has a mind of its own. My paintings start with an idea, an emotion, a color combination or a new technique. Once the paint flows I follow where it leads. Sometimes it takes a straight path to what I envisioned, but if I’m lucky it takes a winding road to an unexpected destination that I can only reach through the magic of watercolor.
Artist’s Bio: Katie Griffith grew up in Oklahoma and has lived all over the United States. She started taking art classes after college and never stopped creating. Her main medium is watercolor but she also creates fiber art and mixed media. Other interests include writing, gardening, reading, music and spending time outside. She now resides in Sioux City, IA and loves the amazing arts community, beautiful scenery and wonderful people who have made her feel right at home.
